San Antonio, Texas Hotels and Motels

San Antonio is both a fun and historic place to visit.  After living in Texas for 5 years and traveling to San Antonio several times on business, I finally took the time to visit the Alamo.  Since it was August, we decided to visit the Alamo in the morning to avoid the 105-degree heat. You need to plan on spending at least 2 hours in order to have time to explore all the exhibits.  When you enter the complex, you will notice people speak in hushed, quiet tones.  There is an unspoken reverence as you walk the manicured paths and realize you are experiencing a part of American history.  I sat down near the entrance and marveled at how peaceful and tranquil you feel.  All the employees are eager to give you lots of information and answer any questions you might have on the area.

We took the suggestion of a local and decided to eat at the Casa Rio located on Commerce Street,which is only about 4 blocks from the Alamo.  Established in 1946, the food is authentic Mexican with an endless supply of chips and salsa.  It’s hard not to fill up on the chips and salsa but believe me you want to experience the food.  We all ordered different entrees so that we could enjoy the different tastes and textures of each dish.  The atmosphere and food are great along with being very affordable.

After lunch we decided to take a riverboat ride circling the River Walk area.  The cost is $7.75 per adult and $2.00 for children 5 and under.  If you are a senior citizen you will pay $5.00 per person.  The ride lasts about 35 minutes and revisits the history of the River Walk area, giving you a great view of some of the exclusive hotels and restaurants located along the river.  No trip is complete without a visit to the River Center Mall. For those in your group that love to shop, it has 125 stores and also a food court so you can refuel for more shopping.  Not into shopping, there is also an IMAX theatre.  The River Walk area is so diversified, it’s easy to find something for everyone to enjoy making San Antonio a must visit.
